Right at the water's edge with updated interiors! Quiet & peaceful. Sunset views
The colder weather is definitely here, but Pura Vida is warm and cozy, and the lake has a unique winter beauty. It's really inviting to sit by the windows with a hot drink and watch the water and the occasional passing flocks of ducks or geese. The summer crowds have vacated the winery tasting rooms and hiking trails, so it's a good time to explore, try the newly released wines, and stock up!
Note about reservations for visits late March - early April 2018: We have scheduled a dock-builder to improve/replace the existing dock at the property during this winter, but they are unable to give us a more specific/targeted work schedule just yet. We do keep asking for specific dates! We do know that work will occur M-F, 9AM-5PM. Weekend bookings (Fri/Sat/Sun nights) during these months should not be affected by noise/activity, but longer stays could be partially impacted during working hours by dock construction outside (no interior disruption will occur). If it turns out that active construction (overlap with workers, equipment blocking views) is going on during the time of your reservation, we will offer a reduction in your rate/refund (TBD depending on impact). Please message us *prior to booking* if you are seeking a longer or midweek stay during these months and feel that this could be an issue for you.
“Pura Vida” is Spanish for “pure life,” a philosophy that encourages the appreciation of life’s simple treasures. Relaxation; celebrating friends, family, and the good things in life; appreciating the beauty in every day; choosing to live life to the fullest! It’s more than just a saying... it’s a philosophy that we hope you'll embrace when you stay here!
Come prepared to enjoy every day. Get up early and see the changes in color of the hills across the lake as the sun rises. Watch an afternoon storm advance across the lake and pass by, leaving the air clean and fresh. Listen to the haunting calls of the loons across the water. Enjoy the lake breezes and sound of the waves against the sea wall. Explore the area parks, waterfalls, and wineries. Laugh around a table, enjoying a meal with loved ones. Relax and watch the stunning colors of sunset bleed into the deep sapphire of twilight as the stars start to twinkle. Curl up in bed and sink into comfortable slumber, ready for the next day's adventures. There's something kind of magical about the light, and the breeze, and the sound of the water here. Pura vida!
One of the first things that you'll notice when you arrive is that you are right on the water! The front deck projects over the lake, and you can hear the water lapping at the sea wall even from inside the house. There are no long cliffside staircases to go up and down from the house in order to be near the water; unlike many other houses on Cayuga Lake, here you can drive right up and step out over the water from the house itself! We are located in a friendly lakeside neighborhood, a very short distance down a quiet, dead-end, single-lane gravel road with a 5 mph speed limit - very peaceful and safe, and yet no long, slow, frustrating drives to get back to the main road for the day's adventures like some long lake access roads. The front deck has a table and chairs for outdoor dining, and amazing views better than any local restaurant. The adirondack chairs on the dock are perfect for relaxing at any time - you'll be drawn to them over morning coffee, sipping a glass of wine at sunset, or stargazing!
After 3 steps up to the front door, the next thing you'll notice is that with the main windows facing south and west, the house is full of light. Light filtering blinds on the windows contribute to the airy feeling but closing the side blinds blocks views of neighbors, providing a sense of privacy and communion with the lake. A small lawn to the north invites bare feet, and the graceful and stately weeping willow provides shade. A colorful and comfortable hammock invites relaxation right next to the water. An open floor plan on the main floor means that the kitchen and living room are one space and it's easy to chat while preparing a meal. The updated, well-equipped kitchen makes meal preparation easy with a full size refrigerator, gas range, microwave, toaster, 12-cup drip coffee maker, blender, hand-mixer, wafflemaker, dishes/tableware and dining area. Major appliances are stainless and new in 2018!
The open floor plan living room area includes new, comfortable seating, a flat screen TV with cable and a DVD player. Wireless internet is provided. Also on the first floor is a full bathroom with a combined shower/tub, and 2 bedrooms (BR1 has 1 queen bed; BR2 is *small* but has a bunk bed consisting of one upper twin-sized bunk (200 lb weight limit) and one lower full-sized bunk (400 pound weight limit) that can sleep 3 people. Please note that while it is sturdy, the bunk bed is intended primarily for children and because of the twin-over-full mattress sizes and configuration, it is likely not optimally comfortable/convenient for 3 adults - please see photos). An open staircase leads to a second floor with a half bathroom (sink and toilet) and loft-style open space with sleeping arrangements for an additional 3 people with 1 queen bed (sleeps 2) and a daybed (sleeps 1 on a twin mattress). Brand new memory foam mattresses in 2016. Recently updated decor features a comfort-oriented, eclectic, contemporary style, with regional art adorning the walls - lots of unique touches! Think urban loft meets peaceful lake cottage!
We provide bed linens and a set of bath towels for every guest, and light cleaning is taken care of by us when you depart. Fans are provided throughout the house, and in the summer window air-conditioning units are present in each bedroom and the open ground floor living area. Please note, there is not an on-site washer/dryer.
Outside a fire pit by the lakeshore is available for bonfires and roasting marshmallows, and a propane barbecue is available for grilling. Bring your gear and fish right from the dock. 2 kid-sized (for kids
