Peaceful accessible lake cottage, right at the water's edge, updated interiors
11/12/17 - The cooler fall weather is definitely here, but Pura Vida is warm and cozy; if you happen to get rain, being so close to the shoreline offers really beautiful views of storms over the lake, and rain makes the area waterfalls really roar! The summer crowds have vacated the winery tasting rooms and hiking trails, so it's a good time to explore and stock up on holiday gifts!
Note about reservations for visits January through April 2018. We are scheduling a dock-builder to improve/replace the existing dock at the property during this winter, but they are unable to give us a targeted schedule just yet. **Weekend bookings (Fri/Sat/Sun nights) during these months will NOT be affected**, but longer stays could be partially impacted. Please message us prior to booking if you are seeking a longer or midweek stay during these months. We anticipate that this winter's dock revetment will allow boat/jet ski mooring at the cottage dock in summer 2018.
“Pura Vida” is Spanish for “pure life,” a philosophy that encourages the appreciation of life’s simple treasures. Relaxation; celebrating friends, family, and the good things in life; appreciating the beauty in every day; choosing to live life to the fullest! It’s more than just a saying... it’s a philosophy that we hope you'll embrace when you stay here!
Come prepared to enjoy every day. Get up early and see the changes in color of the hills across the lake as the sun rises. Watch an afternoon storm advance across the lake and pass by, leaving the air clean and fresh. Listen to the loons calling. Enjoy the lake breezes and sound of the waves lapping against the sea wall. Explore the area parks, waterfalls, and wineries. Laugh around a table, enjoying a meal with loved ones. Relax and watch the stunning colors of sunset bleed into the deep sapphire of twilight as the stars start to twinkle. Curl up in bed and sink into comfortable slumber, ready for the next day's adventures. There's something kind of magical about the light, and the breeze, and the sound of the water here. Pura vida!
One of the first things that you'll notice when you arrive is that you are right on the water! The front deck projects over the lake, and you can hear the water lapping even from inside the house. There are no long cliffside staircases to go up and down from the house in order to be near the water; unlike many other houses on Cayuga Lake, here you can drive right up and step out over the water from the house itself! We are located in a friendly lakeside neighborhood, a very short distance down a quiet, dead-end, single-lane gravel road with a 5 mph speed limit - very peaceful and safe, and yet no long, slow, frustrating drives to get back to the main road for the day's adventures! The front deck has a table and chairs for outdoor dining, and plenty of seating to chat and enjoy the lakefront. The adirondack chairs on the dock are perfect for relaxing at any time - over morning coffee, sipping a glass of wine at sunset, or stargazing!
After 3 steps up to the front door, the next thing you'll notice is that with the main windows facing south and west, the house is full of light. Light filtering blinds on the windows contribute to the airy feeling but closing the side blinds blocks views of neighbors, providing a sense of privacy and communion with the lake. A small lawn to the north invites bare feet, and the graceful and stately weeping willow provides shade. A colorful and comfortable hammock over the grass and under the willow invites relaxation right next to the water. An open floor plan on the main floor means that the kitchen and living room are one space and it's easy to chat while preparing a meal. The well-equipped kitchen makes meal preparation easy with a full size refrigerator, gas range, microwave, toaster, 12-cup drip coffee maker, blender, hand-mixer, wafflemaker, dishes/tableware and dining area. But if you want a unique and affordable vacation luxury, consider having a local private chef service do the work and drop off a heat-and-serve meal, or prepare something for you on site while you relax and enjoy the ambiance!
The living room area includes new, comfortable seating, a flat screen TV with cable and a DVD player. Wireless internet is provided. Also on the first floor is a full bathroom with a combined shower/tub, and 2 bedrooms (BR1 has 1 queen bed; BR2 is *small* but has a bunk bed consisting of one upper twin-sized bunk (200 lb weight limit) and one lower full-sized bunk (400 pound weight limit) that can sleep 3. Please note that while it is sturdy, the bunk bed is intended primarily for children and because of the twin-over-full mattress sizes and configuration, it is likely not optimally comfortable/convenient for 3 adults - please see photos). An open staircase leads to a second floor with a half bathroom (sink and toilet) and sleeping arrangements for an additional 3 people with 1 queen bed (sleeps 2) and a daybed (sleeps 1 on a twin mattress). Brand new memory foam mattresses in 2016. Recently updated decor features a comfort-oriented, eclectic, contemporary style, with regional art adorning the walls - lots of unique touches! Think urban loft meets peaceful lake cottage!
We provide bed linens and a set of bath towels for every guest, and light cleaning is taken care of by us when you depart. Fans are provided throughout the house and in the summer window air-conditioning units are present in each bedroom and the open ground floor living area. Please note, there is not an on-site washer/dryer.
Outside a fire pit is available for bonfires and roasting marshmallows, and a propane barbecue is available for grilling. Bring your gear and fish right from the dock. 2 kid-sized (for kids <100 pounds) and 2 adult-sized kayaks + paddles available for use. Bring your canoe or launch our kayaks from our small shale beach just to one side of the willow tree. Relax in the sunshine or the shade from the weeping willow tree. The front dock is great for relaxing, fishing or jumping into the water, but because strong winds and wave action can come up quickly on the lake, **the dock is not currently strong enough for mooring of a boat**. If you wish to trailer a boat, it can be launched from nearby marinas or Long Point State Park but boats/jet skis may not be tied to the dock or left in the water overnight - please contact us for recommendations. **Parking is limited** as this is a one lane road - there is space to park 3 cars on our property. Please note that there is no overflow parking!
Pura Vida Cottage is far enough from the hubbub to be relaxing, and is still an easy 8 miles to Wells College in Aurora, or 20 miles to Ithaca College & Cornell University in Ithaca. We are 1/2 mile from the King Ferry Golf Club, within easy distance of many state parks and other hiking trails, as well as centrally located to the wineries on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake, making it an ideal location for tourists and visiting parents/alumni to nearby colleges.
The house received a massive interior renovation in 2016-2017! This property is clean, updated, comfortable and ready to promote your relaxation and fun!
Come and enjoy Pura Vida!
NOTE: Due to the prevalence of internet scammers, we do NOT accept bookings through unregulated classified ad sites. Make reservations only via verified sites.
Now taking reservations for the 2018 Cornell University, Ithaca college, or Wells College graduation event weeks. Cornell is 20 miles (an easy 30 minute drive) from the cottage. PLEASE NOTE: This property is on a single lane road in a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood, with limited parking. Additionally, as it is so close to the water, septic system limitations prevent it being set up for large group use. This property has a **no parties** policy.
